Once in a Blue Moon

(Cristy: Nation tee shirt(similar here) /Blush Sweater (similar here)/ Blank leather pants (similar here) Zara boots (similar here)/ Amazon beanie/ Ray Ban glasses)

It's been killing me to see all these street style photos of stylish New Yorkers all bundled up while I've been working with the usual cut offs and sandals. I finally got a break from the crazy heat and humidity today with temperatures dropping to the low 60’s. Let's pray this lasts for more than just a few days.

NYC Day 1: Roof top Tea Time

(Duda: Alexis dress/ Zara bag and tights/ jeffrey Campbell shoes)

This was a trip I thought would go badly but turned out really good. The point of the weekend getaway  was to celebrate Cristy's birthday and spend some quality best friend time up in the city. Unfortunately, things came up like they always do and Cristy had to cancel her trip.
NYC weather was cool breezes and sunny skies, allowing me to sport a light jacket and one of my favorite boots.  My first day there I opted for a girly/grunge Alexis dress that's part leather and part lace, and threw on some black tights. I've had this urge to jump into winter already since the temperatures are still high in miami and added a hot pink beanie last minute. I initially was going for the all black New Yorker 'look',  but couldn't help myself by adding a touch of color.
My morning started off on a rooftop with friends, sipping Black Tea and overlooking the East village. With all the weekend down time and nothing to worry about I was ready for all my NYC Adventures.

Once a dress, now a shirt.

(LF shirt/WCP shorts/ thrifted jacket/Steve Madden boots/vintage necklace/See glasses/ Falchi purse)

I fell in love with a stripped maxi dress I bought at LF a little over 3 years ago. The problem is all it’s ever done since then is hang in my closet and get lost amongst all my newer pieces. It's the only long dress I own and I've never worn it.  Made me notice I'm just not really a maxi dress person. Every time I tried it on I always ended up opting for something else, like shorts (shocker). I did some brutal closet cleaning and decided it was time to either throw out the dress or try and to make into something else. With my closet only halfway cleaned, I absentmindedly grabbed the nearest pair of scissors, cut the dress in half and quickly hemmed the edges. Why didn't I think of this before?!? It's the softest fabric and as a tank it has the loosest fit that sinks in this perfect way. I wore it the next day with a cargo/rain jacket/anorak/....thing I found at a local thrift store with my favorite pair of WCP shorts and old brown boots.

Trend Spotting: Palm Tree's

Ever since I saw the Dries Van Noten Spring Summer 2012 collection I've been craving anything with a palm tree print. The borderline tacky graphic has me head over heels for this touristy trend. Kind of worried that my interest in tacky fashion might be sign I'm going nuts? Probably. I'm just going to embrace it and hope to come across something similar next time I go thrifting. There's always an overwhelming amount of wildly printed pieces busting off the Goodwill racks, so I'll probably be in luck. People offhandedly throw away some awesome shit. And I love them for it.

Arrowheads, Eagles and Stripes

(Duda: Blush dress/ Urban Outfitters bag/ Steve Madden shoes/ Wcp Neckalce)

Got this graphic eagle dress two days ago at Blush Boutique in Coconut Grove. Not surprised by my usual compulsiveness to wear new pieces on the most boring of occasions. I blame it on my impatience. This dress is perfectly oversized and has a sheer lining that makes it weather appropriate for
Miami's never ending heat. I kinda ruined the comfort factor though by adding my favorite ankle boots. What ever, I liked it. I dream of one day roaming the streets in 70 degree weather without worrying about sweating to death.

Kenzo Tiger Sweatshirt

photos via google and vanessa jackman

Kind of feel like everyone but me owns the Kenzo Tiger Sweater. How awesome is it? I want it too!  I love how Elena Perminova styled it with a pair of distressed acid wash shorts and a tribal inspired statement necklace. Knowing me and my closet that's vomiting shorts I'd probably wear it in a similar way.
